Modern Frescos are based on a method that I have developed with similar results to the frescos typically associated with the Renaissance Period. I paint rural and urban landscapes, often from memory.
The disappearing, pre-Famine homesteads of rural Ireland and their unique vernacular architecture are a particular inspiration. The plaster brings out vivid colours, similar to that found in stained glass and helps to bring the images to life. I try to capture these old buildings before they decay away into the landscape and give them a new lease of life.
